Rovinj is a Croatian city which is located on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula. Beside Poreč, it is the largest tourist center in Istria. Its' surrounding is also called Red Istria because of the red soil type. Rovinj has around 15 000 inhabitants. Most of them are Croats and Italians. The climate is mediterranean with average summer temperature of 22.3°C. The Rovinj archipelago consists of 22 islands and islets of which Sv. Andrija i Sv. Katarina are the biggest. The most significant construction is the st. Euphemia's basilica. July 13th 800. st. Euphemia's sarcophagus floated to the Rovinj coast and since then Rovinj is closely conected with that mathyr - in the 10. century an aisled church was bulit and was reconstructed to its present form in the 18. century by Giovanni Scalfarota, a venetian architect. There is a turret beside the church that is the highest in Istria (62 m) with st. Euphemia's copper statue.
